## What are Paying Customers Movements?

This metric counts how many customers moved in each MRR movement type during a period. Instead of looking at dollar amounts, you're looking at the number of accounts.

## The Five Movement Counts

| Movement | What it counts |
| ------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------- |
| **New paying customers** | Accounts that started paying for the first time |
| **Churned customers** | Accounts that cancelled |
| **Expanded customers** | Accounts that upgraded or added seats |
| **Contracted customers** | Accounts that contracted |
| **Reactivated customers** | Accounts that came back after cancelling |

## Why It's Useful

Dollar amounts tell you the revenue impact. Customer counts tell you how widespread the movement is.

Example: \$5,000 in Churn MRR could be 1 big customer or 100 small ones. The count tells you which — and that changes how you respond.

Bigdelta tracks each movement as an [activity](/guide/features/activities) on each account.
